|
Description |
Join us for an engaging Coffee & Tea
Break & Talk with Solutions featuring Architect Joseph Ndaba, who will
present on: "Ekurhuleni Council Building
Control: Challenges, Practical Solutions, and the Way Forward." This interactive session will provide

GSA Practice Lecture: Bongani Kona |
|
Description |
GSA Practice Lecture: Bongani Kona Date: Tuesday, 11 August 20226 Time: 18:00 – 19:00 Online: MS Teams RSVP: RSVP: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/r/krBHc7sEhD
Cat 1, 0. 1 CPD Credits
In 2026, the GSA is inviting architectural and
spatial practitioners to speak to our community about how they are
transforming their practice ground, through recombination, collaboration,
refusal or making anew. Rather than the customary presentation of completed
buildings, this lecture series foregrounds adaptive practice models -
contingent, responsive, and continuously redefined.
Bongani Kona is a PhD candidate and lecturer in the
Department of Historical Studies at the University of the Western Cape. He
worked for many years as a contributing editor at Chimurenga, a pan-African
journal of arts culture and politics, and was part of the curatorial team of
the Archive of Forgetfulness project. His writing has appeared in various
anthologies and journals, including The Interpreters: South Africa’s New
Nonfiction, The Baffler, Redemption Song and Other Stories, and Doek!
magazine. His work has been shortlisted for the Caine Prize (2016) and the
True Story Award (2021). Kona is also the editor of Our Ghosts Were Once
People: Stories on Death and Dying. ‘Time, Paper, Bone,’ a 57-minute audio
documentary made in collaboration with Catherine Boulle, aired on BBC Radio
in July 2025.
“Every work of literature has both a situation and a
story,” Vivian Gornick writes. “The situation is the context or circumstance,
sometimes the plot; the story is the emotional experience that preoccupies
the writer: the insight, the wisdom, the thing one has come to say.” Drawing
on Vivian Gornick’s The Situation and the Story and examples from his own
writing, Kona will explore the craft of the personal essay. |
