Professional Architects were regulated under the Architects Act 35 of 1979.
This Act established the South African Council for Architects (SACA).
SACA commenced operations on or around 1 March 1971. The Architects Act 35 of 1979 remained in force of a period of almost 30 years. The Architects Act 35 of 1979 regulated Professional Architects only.
The Architects Act 35 of 1979 was repealed and replaced by the Architectural Profession Act 44 of 2000.
The Architectural Profession Act was published on 1 December 2000 and it came into operation on 26 January 2001.
On 12 September 2001, the South African Council for Architects was renamed the South African Council for the Architectural Profession.
The Architectural Profession Act 44 of 2000 regulates Professional Architects, Professional Senior Architectural Technologists,
Professional Architectural Technologists and Professional Architectural Draughtspersons
