SACAP Strengthens Collaboration with the National Prosecuting Authority to Enhance Enforcement of the Architectural Profession Act
The South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) engaged with representatives of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) on 23 June 2026 at Phalaborwa Magistrate’s Court in Phalaborwa, Limpopo, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the enforcement of the Architectural Profession Act, 2000 (Act 44 of 2000), and promote greater compliance within the architectural profession.
The engagement provided a platform for SACAP to appraise the NPA on the legislation governing the architectural profession and the role of SACAP in protecting the public through the regulation of the architectural profession.
Discussions focused on challenges currently experienced in the investigation and prosecution of offences related to the Architectural Professions Act, the misuse of protected professional titles, and other contraventions of the Act. The parties also explored practical measures to improve collaboration between SACAP and law enforcement agencies in support of effective enforcement of the Architectural Profession Act.
The engagement forms part of SACAP's broader commitment to safeguard the public interest, maintain professional standards, and ensure that individuals who contravene the provisions of the Architectural Profession Act are held accountable in accordance with the law.
SACAP welcomes the opportunity to work closely with the NPA and other law enforcement partners in advancing a regulatory environment that promotes professionalism, accountability, and public protection within South Africa's built environment.
