Caddie and SACAP sign mou to advance architectural education and professional development

13 November 2024, Caddie Software and the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen their long-standing partnership and create new opportunities for architectural students and professionals in South Africa.

This collaboration, which builds upon an initial MOU signed in May 2018, aims to expand initiatives that support skills development, innovation, and industry advocacy within the architectural Profession. SACAP, as the regulatory body for the architectural profession, and Caddie, a leading provider of architectural software solutions, are committed to working together to enhance the learning experience for students and provide ongoing professional development for registered architectural professionals.

During the signing ceremony, the CEO of Caddie Software, Derek Bretherton, expressed enthusiasm about the renewed partnership. “We are thrilled to continue our collaboration with SACAP. As part of our commitment to the growth of architectural education in South Africa, we are pleased to announce that once the CETA-funded computers for candidates are made available, Caddie will assist with the installation of the necessary software at no additional cost. This will ensure that aspiring architectural professionals have access to the best tools and resources to succeed in their studies and careers.”

Accordingly, the MOU outlines a number of collaborative activities between SACAP and Caddie, including:

·       Educational Support: workshops, and seminars to promote best practices and knowledge sharing., skills development: Joint research projects, innovation challenges, and competitions will be organized to foster technological advancements and promote new ideas in architectural practices., networking opportunities: SACAP will support Caddie’s platform by facilitating connections between registered professionals, students, and Voluntary Associations, enabling greater collaboration and career development opportunities.

·   Internships and Mentorships: Caddie and SACAP will work together to establish internship and mentorship programs, offering students valuable exposure to the industry.

SACAP Registrar, Adv. Toto Fiduli, highlighted the importance of this partnership in advancing the profession. "Through this MOU, SACAP and Caddie are committed to supporting the future of architecture in South Africa. By equipping our students and professionals with the tools and knowledge they need, we can ensure that the architectural profession continues to thrive in the digital age."

The South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) is legally charged to regulate the architectural profession in South Africa by the Architectural Profession Act 2000, Act 44 of 2000.
