JBCC Claims |
Presenter
|
Steve du Toit is a former attorney
and currently is an independent consultant who has many years of experience
providing legal advice and commercial support to the construction,
engineering and mining industries. In 2007 he joined the JBCC as an Executive
Officer and thereafter took up a position as a Director at a construction
consulting firm before leaving to start his own consulting company.
As a result of this extensive experience he has established himself as
a leading expert and he is an acknowledged authority with regards to the
inner workings of the JBCC building agreements and their application. Steve
expertly blends his expertise with keen foresight and his training is highly
practical and informative.
When asked about why
a training course focusing on the JBCC is so important, he has this to
say...”the JBCC Suite of Contracts is widely used throughout the South
African construction industry but there still remains a lot of uncertainty
regarding the ins and outs with regards to the mechanics and day-to-day use
of the contracts. This course offers something unique; there are no hidden
agendas here! I want each and every Course Participant to leave this training
with a thorough understanding of the inner workings of the JBCC and to feel
confident that they have all of the answers that they need to successfully manage
the JBCC claims process.” |

Course information (Content/Overview) |
About the UEDC 1st Edition: THE
CITY IS [NOT] A TREE creates awareness of the problems that cause spatial,
physical, political, social, economic, racial, religious divisions in cities.
Researchers will come together to discuss the reasons for the divisions as
well as to conceptualize an approach to heal those divisions. The conference
involves developers, local authorities, and communities in the conversation.
The fuller conception of the nature of divisions in cities means that
effective principles and strategies can start to be formulated towards
healing and transformation process, to more integrated communities, cities,
and a more just and unified society.
Fueled by systemic problems, the
urban ecologies of divided cities appear as mutually constituted physical, psychological,
and social conditions. Socio-spatial realities remain entrenched upon
identities and the urban psyche without even much notice or resistance. The
project is an inquiry into such intersecting systemic currents, but it is
also an exploration of the imaginative and potentially creative possibilities
which could begin to challenge either-or binaries and offer the potential for
creative space. As a collaborative and inter-disciplinary project, THE CITY
IS [NOT] A TREE is also interested in the imaginative and multi-stranded
confluence of memory, history, and social and political contexts, helping to
construct new physical, social and symbolic ground on which to build.
IEREK organizes the 1st edition
of the International Conference of “The City is [Not] a Tree: The Urban
Ecologies of Divided Cities” to discuss the concept of divided cities and the
different approaches that have become essential to reach strategies to create
liveable and loveable places. The UEDC conference will be a great opportunity
to improve your knowledge, career and to meet researchers, professors,
architects, built environment professionals, designers and urban planners
from different parts of the world.
The conference is a co-operation
between Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and IEREK (International
Experts for Research Enrichment and Knowledge Exchange), Egypt/Italy and the
vehicle to build a platform from which we can deepen our understanding of
both the reasons and the implications for the divisions as well as to
conceptualize a rigorous approach to healing these divisions and transforming
our urban spaces. The objective is to involve developers, local authorities,
and communities in the conversation to explore the different approaches,
tools and possibilities that may be learnt from sharing between a variety of
research disciplines and city stakeholders.
