Press Release – SACAP

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Date: 20 June 2025

Mthatha, Eastern Cape, the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) expresses its deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the residents of Mthatha and surrounding areas affected by the recent devastating floods.

SACAP is profoundly saddened by the tragic loss of lives, the destruction of homes and public infrastructure, and the displacement of families caused by the floods. This natural disaster underscores both the vulnerability of our communities and the resilience that defines the South African spirit.

“We stand in solidarity with the people of Mthatha during this extremely difficult time,” said SACAP President, Charles Ntsindiso Nduku. “We commend the unwavering efforts of emergency personnel, volunteers, government officials, and local authorities who continue to provide critical aid, shelter, and support to those in need.”

As the statutory body regulating the architectural profession in South Africa, SACAP recognises the importance of safe, resilient, and sustainable infrastructure in safeguarding lives and livelihoods. In response to this crisis, SACAP affirms its commitment to working collaboratively with built environment professionals, government entities, and civil society to support long-term recovery and rebuilding initiatives.

“Our thoughts are with all those impacted by the floods. We encourage all South Africans to extend their support in any way possible to help the Mthatha community heal and rebuild,” the SACAP President added.
