SACAP Calls on Infrastructure Departments to uphold professional standards and comply with the Architectural Profession Act and the IDoW Policy

The South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) urges all Infrastructure Departments to uphold professional standards and comply with the Architectural Profession Act 44 of 2000, as well as the Identification of Work (IDoW) policy.

Departments are encouraged to appoint registered professionals who meet the competency standards outlined in the IDoW to design infrastructure projects and human settlements. It is now easy to verify professional registration in real-time through the Privy Seal Registration Certificate. Additionally, the tender documentation (functionality requirements) must align with the competency requirements outlined in the IDoW to ensure that registered professionals who meet these standards are sourced for the project.

Furthermore, SACAP has developed a Certificate of Competence for individuals registered as Professional Senior Architectural Technologists, Professional Architectural Technologists, and Professional Architectural Draughtspersons. A valid Certificate of Competence verifies, in real-time, that the architectural work of the registered professionals mentioned above meets the necessary competency standards. (Note: The Certificate of Competence requirement does not apply to Professional Architects, as they are deemed competent for all architectural work under the IDoW framework.)

By adhering to the IDoW policy, Infrastructure Departments contribute to promoting safety, quality, accountability, and excellence in the built environment, thereby strengthening professionalism and ethical practice within the architectural profession.

Kind Regards
