The South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) and the Architects Registration Board United Kingdom (ARB UK) convened a high-level engagement on Tuesday, 17 February 2026, with discussions continuing on Friday, 20 February 2026.

The discussions regarding a potential Mutual Recognition Agreement between SACAP and the ARB UK concluded on Friday following a three-day visit by ARB UK officials.

During the visit, ARB UK representatives engaged with the University of Pretoria, University of the Witwatersrand, and University of Johannesburg, as well as the South African Institute of Architects, Stefan Antoni Olmesdahl Truen Architects, Boogertman + Partners and   TectArch (Pty) Ltd.

Discussions amongst other things focused on the practice environment in South Africa, the accreditation standards for architectural qualifications, the assessment of substantial equivalence, candidate training requirements, registration requirements, and the sharing of regulatory best practices between SACAP and ARB UK.

SACAP looks forward to the possible conclusion of a Mutual Recognition Agreement, which would enhance professional mobility and create broader international opportunities for Professional Architects.
