Practice Notice

Consultation on the conditions relating to, and the nature and extent of, continuing education and training.

In terms of section 13(k) of the Act, the Council published draft conditions on the nature and extent of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for public comment. The overwhelming number of comments from the architectural profession opposed the proposed inclusion of professional indemnity insurance as a requirement for renewal of registration in terms of section 22(1) and (2) of the Act.

After due consideration of all comments, the Continuing Professional Development Committee and the Council resolved that the professional indemnity insurance requirement will not be included in the final CPD Board Notice.

The final CPD Board Notice will, however, permit registered persons who are members of recognised Voluntary Associations (VAs) to accrue Category 1 CPD credits for service rendered as adjudicators in architectural awards recognised by such VAs, as well as for service on Council, its committees, and on the Boards and Committees of recognised VAs (including, but not limited to, the Practice Committee).

The final CPD Board Notice will be published in the Government Gazette.
