SACAP has received queries regarding the practice of displaying lists of architectural professionals, including their names and contact details, at municipal building control counters. Concerns have been raised regarding whether this practice complies with applicable protection of personal information legislation.
In this regard, SACAP advises all local authorities that it is not advisable to publish the names and contact details of registered professionals on notice boards or at municipal building control counters. Registration statuses change from time to time, including instances where registration has been suspended or cancelled. Furthermore, the public display of personal information without appropriate consent may potentially contravene applicable protection of personal information laws.
Municipalities are therefore encouraged to refer any member of the public to the SACAP website to access the up-to-date register of architectural professionals.
