With the increasing globalisation of professional services, the practice of architecture is no longer confined to the jurisdiction in which a Professional Architect first obtains professional registration. Pursuant to the above, the SACAP facilitates professional mobility and expands opportunities for South African Professional Architects through Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs), positioning them to pursue opportunities both locally and internationally.
MRAs provide for the reciprocal recognition of professional registration between participating jurisdictions, underpinned by equivalent professional qualifications, demonstrated competence, and aligned regulatory standards, and are subject to the regulatory requirements of the relevant authorities.
Foreign applicants who hold professional registration outside jurisdictions covered by SACAP's Mutual Recognition Agreements may still apply for registration in South Africa through the Critical Skills Visa process and SACAP's foreign qualification assessment and evaluation procedures.
South African citizens who obtained their architectural education abroad may apply for registration through SACAP's foreign qualification evaluation procedures, subject to SACAP's prescribed qualification and competency requirements.
