1.
Introduction
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is
a key strategic component of the 5th Term Council’s plan that aims
to realise transformation in the profession.
The 5th Terms Council of the
South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) took a decision
to lift the moratorium which it placed on the Recognition of Prior Learning
(RPL). All architectural professionals who are registered, in good standing and
meet all the requirements are encouraged to apply.
The purpose of the Recognition of Prior
Learning (RPL) programme is to redress past imbalances and assess previously
acquired skills, knowledge, and experience, with the view to providing an
opportunity to registered professionals to articulate to the next level of
registration.
Articulating within the profession will
uplift the professional status of successful applicants and is expected to help
Architectural Professionals to unlock more lucrative work opportunities.
2.
What is RPL?
RPL gives credit and acknowledgement for the
competencies, or portion of the competencies, acquired through previous
learning and experience.
The RPL programme allows only for access to
elevated professional registration and is not an academic qualification.
