Acoustics for Architects :

Activity Title:

Acoustics for Architects

Description

Acoustics is an often-misunderstood engineering discipline in South Africa due to minimal regulatory drive or enforcement regarding noise and interior noise levels concerning building facades, internal partitions, internal fit-outs, and building services noise and vibration control. The acoustic services responsibilities are left to the project team, who may have limited experience in acoustics or noise control, and end up costing the client more or becoming a permanent issue on the project affecting revenue and reputation.

Acoustic engineers typically form part of a professional team for building projects in many European, Asian, Australasian, Middle East and US regions, thus international best practice will be raised throughout the presentation.

Target group: Professional architects, principal agents, MEP consultants, developers, project managers, quantity surveyors, interior designers

Gaining knowledge of the fundamentals of acoustics during planning and conceptual stages can better equip professionals to know when a project is at risk and when the services of an acoustic consultant are required or will be beneficial to the project.

The presentation will also provide insight into the importance of acoustics regarding acoustic comfort, well-being, and noise regulatory compliance.
