SACAP Strengthens CPD Framework to enhance Professional Development

04 February 2025, The South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) has reaffirmed its commitment to improving Continuing Professional Development (CPD) offerings following a stakeholder engagement session held on 24 January 2025. The meeting, which took place via Zoom, brought together representatives from SACAP and Voluntary Associations (VAs) to discuss challenges and advancements in the CPD framework.

Key discussions centred around the results of a recent CPD survey, which highlighted the need for more accessible, cost-effective learning opportunities. With 164 out of 169 surveyed professionals confirming participation in CPD activities, a strong preference for online learning formats was evident. However, concerns were raised about financial and time constraints affecting professionals’ ability to engage in CPD.

SACAP is taking proactive steps to enhance CPD offerings by:

  • Developing tailored CPD courses to support professionals at different career stages.
  • Encouraging Voluntary Associations to offer free CPD opportunities in 2025.
  • Establishing clearer guidelines for CPD validation and certification issuance.
  • Strengthening collaboration between SACAP and VAs, to improve course relevance and accessibility.

To address concerns regarding CPD certification, SACAP will implement measures to standardise certificate issuance timelines and integrate certification systems with professional profiles. SACAP remains committed to fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional excellence in the architectural profession. professionals are encouraged to participate in the upcoming survey and provide feedback to shape the future of CPD.
