Architects and contractors prepare for new construction projects in Kwazulu-Natal
Next week Durban welcomes the 2nd annual KZN Construction Expo, providing the only multi-disciplinary show for Kwazulu-Natal’s built environment, focusing on buyer and seller engagements through free-to-attend content and face-to-face interactions under one roof.
The KZN Construction Expo is an unprecedented opportunity to access the province’s building and construction value chain ranging from small contractors through to architects, quantity surveyors, property developers, government and industry associations. This interactive platform not only catalyses new investment into infrastructure but also builds capacity for local architects, construction professionals and small to medium sized contractors through free education and technical skills development during training workshops.
A new initiative in 2018, that provides continuing professional development for architectural professionals from the South African Institute for Building Design (SAIBD) and is hosted as part of the KZN Construction Expo, is the Architectural Essentials Corner.
SACAP has entered into a non-monetory trade agreement and will be exhibiting at the event, as well as participating in some of the CPD activities.
The Architectural Essentials Corner provides CPD hours and progressive learning for architectural professionals through a collaborative forum for the transformation of the architectural profession in the pursuit of excellence. The Architectural Essentials Corner programme includes a legislative debate about industry standards, energy efficiency, national vs provincial legislation, the decolonisation of education for the architectural professional, afro-centric design and more.
The extended training programme also features content designed specifically for construction professionals and hosts an interactive round table discussion known as the KZN Stakeholder engagement forum. The province’s development leaders from organisations such as Master Builders Association Kwazulu-Natal, the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the KZN Growth Fund and others will be in attendance to catalyse infrastructure development and open new lines of communication amidst public and private sector towards the realisation of delivering more local construction projects on budget and on time. The interactive training programme and Contractors Corner is also CPD-accredited for quantity surveyors via the Association of South Africa Quantity Surveyors (ASAQS).
Sponsored by Spider Mini-Cranes, Carmix, Mapei, SA Leak Detection and BBF Safety Group and supported by over 80 exhibiting companies and 20 association partners, the KZN Construction Expo is an unprecedented opportunity to access KZN’s building and construction value chain in a unique setting allowing for prestigious visibility, interactive networking and on-site demonstrations. www.kzn-construction.co.za
