Dear President Esa Mohamed, UIA Council, Major Park Won Soon and our global colleagues attending UIA 2017,
On behalf of the South African Council for the Architectural Profession, SACAP, we thank you for your warm invitation to join you in the wonderful World Design City of Seoul.
We regret we cannot be with you in person this year as our Council is in the midst of an intensive restructuring process and we need to conserve our resources and full attention for this inner transformation.
Just four years ago, our city of Durban in eThekwini, Kwazulu Natal together with the South African Institute of Architects (SAIA) and your Council hosted the UIA2014 Durban.
This proved to our Council, beyond a doubt, the value that UIA delivers to the global architectural profession. There is indeed no better platform to collectively visualise, plan and draw the future.
From the shores of South Africa now in 2017, I can share with you that the multi-disciplinary professionals who practice people-centred architecture in our country have never been more passionate and more encouraged.
Passionate about furthering excellence in all that we do and encouraged that educational and legislative frameworks are now supporting us to deliver previously hidden and unrecognised value to the Built Environment.
We wish you fruitful deliberations and look forward to hearing the outcomes.
In the meantime, we will spread your messages to our profession here in South Africa via our social media platforms.
Dr. Yashaen Luckan
