ONLY SACAP Registered Professionals may submit plans to Local Authorities.
The Public is advised to make use of the services of Registered Architectural Professionals when commissioning the drawing of plans for submission to the Local Authorities. All SACAP Registered Professionals are required to adhere to the SACAP Professional Code of Conduct.
Members of the Public can ascertain whether an Architectural Professional is registered with by completing an online search on the homepage of the SACAP website SEARCH - REGISTERED PERSON.

The following documents are required for plan submission:
1. Proof of SACAP Registration - certified copy of original SACAP Registration certificate (Council number).
Registration - Licence to Practice
A person must be registered in terms of Sections 11,13, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24 of the Architectural Profession Act, No 44 of 2000 with the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP). The deadline for registration was 1 July 2006.
Which Category of Registration can submit building plans to Local Authority or Municipality for approval?
Only a ‘Professional' registered person can submit building plans, such as -
Professional Architect (Pr Arch)
Professional Senior Architectural Technologist (PSAT)
Professional Architectural Technologist (PAT)
Professional Architectural Draughtsperson (PAD)
Furthermore, in terms of section 18 (2) and (3) of the Act it states that:
(2) A person may not practise in any of the categories contemplated in subsection (1), unless he or she is registered in that category.
(3) A person who is registered in the category of candidate must perform work in the architectural profession only under the supervision and control of a professional of a category as prescribed i.e. a Mentor or Supervisor in accordance with the SACAP PRACTICAL TRAINING POLICY.
