Who’s who at SACAP

Getting to know the SACAP Council

Maureen Gerrans represents draughtspersons on the SACAP Council. She is the Executive Secretary for the South African Institute of Draughting (SAID), and is also registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA). Although based in Cape Town she spends a lot of her time in Johannesburg, and serves on various committees and boards.

Maureen has unrivalled passion for what she does, and gives new meaning to going the extra mile. She is a self-professed workaholic and sets very high standards for herself.

At the start of her career she worked for several consulting engineering firms in the civil discipline, and spent some time in Namibia working on some diverse projects. She contracted to a manufacturing engineering company producing working drawings for SA Breweries, Atlantic Diesel Engines, and Debmar Marine to name but a few.

With an avid interest in drawing buildings her transition to the architectural arena was inevitable, and she later started her own practice called Creative Design Workroom. She has been working as a Professional Senior Architectural Technologist (PSAT) ever since.

In 2002 Maureen was elected onto the Executive Committee of SAID, and in 2004 was appointed as the Executive Secretary. She was co-opted onto the SACAP Council in 2009, serving on various committees, and in 2010 was appointed by the Minister of Public Works as a full Council Member.

She deems it an honour to serve on Council and to have the portfolio of representing the interests of draughtspersons. She feels great strides have been made in breaking down the barriers between the various categories of architectural practitioners.

Her view is that SACAP will continue to set benchmarks both locally and internationally; earning the respect of Registered Persons, the public, local authorities, national government departments, and all its stakeholders.

Maureen is known for her ‘dry’ sense of humour, enjoys reading, travelling, and photography. Although she is not a big fan of TV or movies, she watches sports and wildlife documentaries.
