SACAP PRESS RELEASE: NQF ALIGNMENT OF OLD 5 /6 YEAR B.ARCH DEGREE

It has come to our attention via the SACAP Education Committee that higher education institutions, in many instances, are equating the old 5 or 6 year B.Arch Degree to an ordinary first degree. This is incorrect as it would then place the B.Arch at NQF Level 7 or even 6, whereas it should be at NQF Level 8 as indicated in the table below. Note well that the table contains both the old / phased out qualifications such as the 5/6 B.Arch, the M.Tech, and the Btech Degrees, and the new qualifications as per the HEQsF.

We trust that this assists those academic persons who may currently be in possession of a B.Arch Degree.

The two tiered B.Arch degree that consisted of the B.AS followed by the B. Arch should be the same as the M.Arch degree - surely?
